A Kuvasz is an ancient, noble livestock guardian dog (LGD). It’s an “original” breed fostered by the Hungarians for thousands of years.
Originally, the Kuvasz was a ferocious independent flock guardian. It was fierce, rugged and intolerant of both animal and human predators. But after hundreds of years, the Kuvasz showed an affinity for human companionship. They came off the plains of Hungary into the cities (and the favour of fifteenth-century nobles) to form unbreakable bonds with those they loved. A bond that would extend to self-sacrifice if necessary.
When it comes to Livestock Guardian Dogs there are many reasons which make the KUVASZ a KUVASZ instead of an Akbash, Maremma, Great Pyrenees or other livestock guardians.
